FAQs

  • Who will meet me at the start of the trip?
No matter whether you are arriving to the airport on Day 1 or we are picking you up at a city hotel (in Barcelona for example) you’ll be met by one of our guides.
  • Can I skip any of the hikes if I need a rest day?
No problem! If it’s a hiking day where we stay in the same hotel that night, you can just hang out in town and do your own thing. If we are hiking from point A to point B with new accommodations, you’ll need to ride in the vehicle that does the luggage transfer.
  • What’s the minimum age for the trip?
Since all the trips are private trips arranged on a custom basis, there is no minimum age to come! We arrange many trips for families with young children so we are well-used to it! However, certain accommodations are "adult-only" and many adventure sport activities also have a minimum age for safety-related reasons. Usually the factor that is most important for such activities is a minimum height and/or weight.
  • What is the difference between "hiking" and "trekking"?
"Hiking" means that each day’s excursion is a “day hike”. At night, you'll sleep in a comfortable inn or hotel. Our comfortable and characterful hotels and inns are located in attractive and interesting towns and villages. "Trekking" means some days you'll sleep in huts high up in the mountains. Other nights you’ll sleep in hotels down in the valleys. Nights in mountain huts allow you to access higher, more remote and often more spectacular terrain. On "trekking" trips, some days you’ll hike from a trailhead up to a hut, others from hut to hut and others from hut down to a trailhead.
  • What is the difference between "guided" and "self-guided"?
On “guided” trips, you’ll be accompanied by an experienced mountain guide who knows the local area well and speaks good English. Our guides provide in-depth insight to local nature, fauna, flora, geology, customs and culture as well as ensuring your safety and well-being at all times. On "Self-guided" trips, you’ll hike "on your own" (not accompanied by a guide), at your own pace, stopping where and when you want, without the constraints of other group members. We provide you with detailed route notes, a marked topographic map and GPS info. Our “Self-guided” routes are easy to follow, however you should have a certain minimum level of experience of "independent" hiking in the mountains as well as basic competence in map-reading and orientation skills in general. On "Self-guided" trips, you'll always have the option to hire a local mountain guide for some days to learn more about the local environment or try a more adventurous route accompanied by an expert.
